PSU BANK MERGERS TO GET A PUSH
The government is planning to
kick off consolidation by lining
up a series of merger and
acquisition proposals for the 19
public sector banks, creating 6-7
banks as big as the State Bank
of India. The idea behind the
exercise is to create large players
that can take on the competition
when the sector is thrown open
in three years.
