New Land Acquisition Act mandates Critical Reforms
India’s new land acquisition Act has came into force, mandating compensation limits and the
resettlement and rehabilitation of affected families. The new Act provides for minimum compensation of 4 times to farmers in rural and 2 times in urban areas. Consent of 80% of farmers is required for purchasing land for public use and 70% in case of Public Private Partnerships (PPPs).
