Centre genetically modifies trade rules
After imposing intrusive
price controls on genetically modified (GM) cotton seeds late last year, the government
has now nullified, in a single stroke, all the existing licence agreements
between trait providers and seed producers and laid down new mandatory norms
for licensing, completely depriving technology companies like US-based Monsanto
of the freedom to choose the licensees or negotiate commercial terms.
